Selected local community groups and charities supporting the ending of child food poverty are to receive a total of £7,000 support from Lewes District Council.
The local authority said it's using the money to get behind those who support the national campaign to bring food directly to children, with footballer Marcus Rashford as its figurehead.
The councillor responsible for communities, Johnny Denis, said:
"Many people in the public eye make contributions of some sort or another to good causes and worthwhile campaigns, but rarely though does someone of such a young age like Marcus Rashford immerse themselves in a charitable endeavour.
"Marcus's humility, understanding and determination has been inspiring and so I'm delighted that we are making a contribution to the distribution of free meals in the district.
"The groups in the district that are helping to feed local children are wonderful and I thank them all."
At the time of writing (November 2), a national petition requesting that Parliament debate the issue had attracted 1,095,906 electronic signatures.
