Artistic sculptures of wild animals, in many shapes and sizes, have taken up residence in Bornor's refurbished Sunken Gardens, thanks to local wood sculptor Simon Groves.
The skilled chainsaw artist was tasked with creating the artworks as part of the refurbishment of the much-loved gardens in the West Sussex town.
A poll was created so that the public could choose which animals they would like to see, and the winners were a badger, a fox, a seal, a starfish, and three rabbits.
Simon, who works from a studio in the South Downs, has been installing the sculptures over the last few weeks, sometimes working against inclement weather to get them settled in their new habitat.
Crafted from sustainably sourced wood, the sculptures will form part of a nature trail for children.
Councillor Sue Wallsgrove, Chair of the Environment Committee at Arun District Council, said:
"These sculptures are fantastic. They really need to be seen close up to appreciate the skill that has gone into crafting them.
"The project to improve the Sunken Gardens has spanned several administrations so we’re delighted to see how well-received it’s been, and these sculptures really bring it to life."
Chainsaw artist, Simon Groves, commented:
"Being involved with this project has been hugely rewarding and I was pleased to receive some lovely comments from passers-by as I worked to install the sculptures in the Sunken Gardens.
"I really hope that people enjoy these pieces of art, and that the community looks after them so that they can continue to be enjoyed for many years to come."
The renovated Sunken Gardens were officially opened earlier this year, with Arun District Council claiming a "positive response" from residents.
The project, delivered by Blakedown Landscapes, includes a revamped play area, offering an inclusive roundabout, in-ground trampoline and a basket swing.
There is also a new southern entrance with new planting, a sensory area with wildflowers and new footpaths and benches.
