Two people have died as a result of a collision late yesterday evening (April 30) on the A27 south-west of Lewes.

Police this afternoon said that two men, who were both travelling in the same car, lost their lives in hospital as a result of the injuries they received in a three-vehicle collision near the Ashcombe Roundabout at around 10.20pm on Friday night.

According to officers, the incident, on the eastbound carriageway, involved a black Audi S5, a silver Audi TT, and a silver Ford Transit van.

Those who died were the occupants of the Audi S5 — a 39-year-old man from Lewes and a 33-year-old man from Brighton.

They were taken from the scene to the Royal Sussex County Hospital but could not be saved.

Next of kin have been informed.

The Transit driver suffered a serious injury and is now in a stable condition in hospital.

In connection with the collision, police have arrested two men on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

They are a 30-year-old man and a 29-year-old man, both from Lewes.

Additionally, the 30-year-old was arrested on suspicion of drug-driving and possession of drugs.

Officers said both remained in custody on Saturday afternoon as an investigation continued.

Police want to hear from witnesses who may have been at the scene, or who saw any of the vehicles involved beforehand, as well as a white Audi S3 which might have been travelling in the same group.
