Active Hastings Offers Free Dementia Training For Local Sports Providers

Active Hastings has launched a new free dementia training course, enabling sports coaches and physical activity instructors to provide accessible exercise sessions for people living with the illness.

The free training course takes place on Friday September 23, from 10am to 4pm, at Muriel Matters House, Breeds Place, Hastings.

The course is free for coaches and instructors delivering sessions in Hastings, or £15 if sessions are held outside Hastings.

Places on the course can be booked by emailing activehastings@hastings.gov.uk.

Cllr Andy Batsford, lead for Health and Culture at Hastings Borough Council, said:

“I am delighted that we are offering this vital training to our local coaches and instructors. Having the tools to support and connect with individuals with dementia, who are taking part in physical activity, is invaluable and will ensure that they have a better quality of life.”

Jas Gray, GP Link Work at Active Hastings, added:

“The aim of this one-day training course is to empower coaches and instructors to understand what dementia is and help them to know how to host inclusive sessions that support people living with dementia.”

Active Hastings is hosted by Hastings Borough Council, in partnership with East Sussex County Council, and brings together a wide range of local and national partners to ensure that everyone in Hastings can get active.

Hastings Borough Council is run by Labour and Green councillors working together following a Cooperation Agreement.
