Adur & Worthing Councils Secure Funding For Free Home Upgrades

Residents in Adur and Worthing can apply for free upgrades worth up to £38,000 per household to make their homes more energy efficient through the Warmer Homes programme.

Adur District Council and Worthing Borough Council are part of a group of 23 local authorities that have successfully bid for a combined £41.4 million in funding from the government.

Members of the community who do not have gas central heating and have household incomes of less than £31,000 a year can apply for free home upgrades such as better insulation, air source heat pumps and solar panels.

These upgrades are designed to save residents money on their energy bills - as much as £1,000 a year from air source heat pumps and £500 from the fitting of solar panels.

As well as making your bills cheaper, installing improvements such as insulation can make your home more environmentally friendly, reducing the carbon impact of your heating.

Those who apply to the Warmer Homes programme may be able to have improvements installed in their home at no cost to them.

Cllr Emma Evans, Adur’s cabinet member for the environment and leisure, said:

“This is a fantastic opportunity for Adur residents to hopefully make their homes cheaper to run, which during the current cost of living crisis is more important than ever. Energy efficiency and decarbonisation of heating are also key to making our district greener, reducing our impact on the planet.”

Cllr Sophie Cox, Worthing’s cabinet member for climate emergency, said:

“These upgrades could help save eligible residents significant amounts of money at a time where many in the community are feeling anxious about the cost of living.

“Projects like this, working together with residents and our partners, help us move closer to meeting our target of Worthing being a carbon-neutral borough by 2045.”

John Moores, from the Warmer Homes programme, said:

“We’re delighted to have been awarded further funding to support more homes through the programme. We’ve already helped many households keep warm and healthy whilst reducing their energy bills and improving the energy efficiency of their home.

“In the last year alone, the Warmer Homes programme has installed fully funded heat pumps, solar panels and insulation that will deliver £10m in lifetime bill savings, an average annual saving of £251 per household and has abated over 50,000 tonnes of CO2.”

This scheme is available now and will be open until 2025 on a first come, first served basis.
