Alzheimers Charity Launches May Appeal

This May, Alzheimer’s Society is inviting Sussex residents to come together and support its Forget Me Not Appeal.

It's to remember and honour people they know who are living with dementia or had the disease.

By wearing your Forget Me Not badge and supporting the appeal, you can show people living with dementia in Sussex that they have not been forgotten, that you understand and stand with them. The badge is a symbol of solidarity and shows that supporters, through their donations, are helping to provide life-changing dementia support.

It’s never been more important to unite against dementia, says the charity. There are currently 26,500 people living with dementia in Sussex with someone developing it every three minutes. This number is set to rise to over one million by 2025 across the UK with many millions more carers, partners, families, and friends affected.

A spokesperson for the charity said:

"Alzheimer’s Society is a vital source of support and a powerful force for change for everyone affected by dementia in Sussex. Too many are facing some of the hardest and most frightening times alone, without adequate support.

"It is only with generous help of supporters that Alzheimer's Society can carry out its urgent work providing expert support to those who need it most."

They're asking people in Sussex to join the Forget Me Not Appeal in honour of a loved one by donating, getting a badge and showing their support.

Carrie Holmes, Alzheimer’s Society Area Manager in Sussex said:

“Alzheimer’s Society invites people across Sussex to show their support for more than 26,500 people estimated to be living with dementia across the county, by taking part in our Forget Me Not Appeal in May.

“We want to send a message to everyone affected by dementia that they have not been forgotten and in doing so we are encouraging people to wear a Forget Me Not badge. By wearing a badge and showing people affected by dementia that we understand and stand with them, you will also be helping people living with dementia to get the life-changing support they need.

“Alzheimer’s Society’s services are a lifeline and have been used over four million times in the last year. We support people living with dementia through some of the hardest and most frightening times. Help us be there for more people by donating to our Forget Me Not Appeal.”
