Animal Lovers Invited To Abseil Down Peacehaven Cliffs For Charity

Have you ever wanted to experience the thrill of abseiling down a cliff face, the amazing sea views, that heart-stopping moment as you step over the edge and the exhilaration when you reach the ground?

You can do just that and help your local animal charity at the same time.

Raystede Centre for Animal Welfare in Ringmer is looking for brave animal lovers to take part in a breathtaking abseil off Peacehaven Cliffs on Saturday September 25.

The charity organised a similar event last year and supporter, Noreen Rooney, took part to celebrate her 70th birthday. She chose to support the charity after adopting her dog, Sonny from Raystede nearly four years ago. Noreen initially fostered Sonny and soon realised she just couldn't part with him, so adopted him permanently, and he now a very important member of their family.

Fellow animal lover, Jezzamin Balcikonis, is taking part in this year's abseil. She has already exceeded her £150 target, which is kindly being match funded by her employer.

Jezzamin said:

"I am taking part in the abseil because I think Raystede is wonderful and, without it, there would be so many unwanted, unloved animals dumped on the streets, rather than in a centre whilst waiting for a new forever home. I got both of my girls from Raystede and cannot imagine my life without them, they have bought so many happy memories to our family over the 14 years I have had them.

"The abseil is a perfect way to raise funds and awareness and I hope everyone smashes their fundraising targets and makes it one to remember!"

There will be two ropes running throughout the day, so you can descend with a friend. All safety gear is provided and expert instructors will be there to help participants complete their challenge. COVID-safety measures will also be in place.

Registration is £20 with a commitment to raise a minimum of £150 in sponsorship, with all funds going directly towards providing rescue, rehabilitation, rehoming and sanctuary for the animals in Raystede's care.
