Applications Received For New Homes In Shoreham Town Centre

A series of applications to build just over 400 new homes in Shoreham have been received by Adur District Council’s planning department.

If the applications are successful the homes could help the council meet its predicted need for present and future accommodation in the town.

The three proposed developments are:

  • The former Civic Centre site where developer The Hyde Group is looking to build 171 one to three bedroom flats with parking and commercial floorspace.

  • Land at the Frosts Cars site on the harbour front on Brighton Road where 183 one and two bedroom apartments with commercial space are proposed

  • The former Howard Kent site, also on Brighton Road where 21 town houses and 24 one to three bedroom flats are proposed. The new proposals have been revised down from 135 units after public opposition to a previously withdrawn application in 2018.

The latter two applications include riverside walkways.

The planning department is currently undertaking notification of neighbours and a wide range of consultees and will be examining the application documents. Each application will go before the council’s planning committee towards the end of the year. If successful, all developers must contribute funds for the council to use on community infrastructure projects.

Adur District Council’s Executive Member for Regeneration, Cllr Brian Boggis, said:

"I’m sure the planning committee will subject these applications to rigorous examination and I will not preempt their deliberations.

"What I will say is that there is a recognisable need for new homes in our District so local people as well as those attracted here can live in this lovely part of the world and contribute their talents and, of course, their spending power to our community and economy.

"There will be plenty of opportunity for the public to have their say too as the applications go live."

Access to the council’s planning webpage  for further details of the published proposals for the Civic Centre and Frosts sites can be found at [https://www.adur-worthing.gov.uk/planning/applications/

Those for the Howard Kent application will be added once additional documentation is received and evaluated.
