A man attending Hove Crown Court for sentencing yesterday was re-arrested by armed police when he arrived at the court carrying a knife.
Officers responded to reports of the man in possession of a knife at around 11am yesterday morning (Aug 11).
Police say the court was closed as they dealt with the incident and nearby Lansdowne Road was cordoned off.
A police spokesperson said:
"A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article and taken to custody. A knife was recovered from the scene. No one was harmed and we would like to thank the public for their patience while we dealt with incident."
According to The Sun newspaper, police were locked in a stand-off with the man for over an hour as they attempted to talk him down.
They reported that the man was being sentenced for assaulting a police officer last year, but arrived at court with a dog and a five-inch blade.
The man, who was wearing a surgical mask, was pictured speaking to officers outside the court, before he was arrested and escorted away from the courthouse.
