Around ten people evacuated following gas leak near Brighton railway station

Around ten people were evacuated from their homes near Brighton railway station yesterday (December, 4) following reports of a gas leak. East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were called to Terminus Road at around 1.39pm. The leak was determined as ammonia, coming from an old cylinder in the basement of a disused butchers shop in Terminus Road. Firefighters were still at the scene at around 9.40pm last night. The evacuated residents have been offered accommodation by Brighton and Hove City Council's homelessness team. There are no reported casualties from this incident. People in the immediate area are being advised to avoid the area on Terminus Road. Residents in the area should keep windows and doors closed.   More Radio is continuously dedicated to providing a quality news service on-air and online, reporting local stories that matter across Sussex.
