Arrest made after armed robbery at Burgess Hill post office

A man has been arrested following reports of an armed robbery at a post office in Burgess Hill on Monday (February, 10). The man from Crawley was also detained in connection with an attempted robbery of a woman nearby. Officers were called to the Worlds End post office, in Leylands Road, just before 8pm where a man allegedly threatened the worker with a knife, demanding they hand over a bottle of alcohol. Another report was subsequently received by police that the suspect threatened to stab a woman at around 7.40pm, as she walked in St Wilfred's Road. Police said no one was hurt in the incidents and firearms officers located and arrested a man matching the description of the suspect nearby. The 23-year-old was detained on suspicion of robbery, attempted robbery, assaulting a police officer and possession of cannabis. He was released on bail until 9 March. Detective Inspective Cheryl Lewendon said: "We were quickly able to make an arrest after responding to the report of the incident at the post office. "We would still like to hear from anyone who witnessed either of the two incidents." Anyone with information is asked to contact 101 quoting serial 1371 of 10/02.
