Ashcroft House Sheltered Housing Planning Application

A planning application for a 44-unit housing scheme in Shoreham which could see new homes for the over 55s in place by 2025 has been submitted by Adur District Council.

The application involves demolition of the existing main building at the former Ashcroft House sheltered housing block and construction of a new three-storey structure.

Existing bungalows at the site on Kingston Lane are due to be retained and refurbished to make them more energy efficient.

It follows a consultation earlier this year in which more than 90% of people backed the scheme.

Ashcroft House has been empty since 2020 after officers decided it had reached the end of its life and repair would have been more costly than building afresh.

The plans feature air source heat pumps, a solar panel ready roof and efficient insulation to help keep fuel bills down. It will also include balconies, outdoor spaces and communal spaces.

Budget approval was granted by Adur & Worthing Council’s’ Joint Strategic Committee last year, with the total cost of the development expected to be around £11 million.

Homes England and the Brownfield Land Release Fund are set to contribute to the funding of the scheme.

The application can be accessed via the Councils’ website.
