Public authorities in Sussex including police and a local council say a ticketed event that a London-based organisation claims is planned for Camber Sands on Sunday (August 9) has no permission, would involve an unlawful number of people gathering together, and risks being broken up.
On-line advertising indicates a shop in Croydon specialising in jerk chicken could be behind the publicity.
However, the event's website was reporting on Thursday (6 August) that the £30 tickets had sold out.
Rother District Council and Sussex Police have made a joint statement about the proposed event.
They said:
We have been made aware of plans for an organised event at Camber Sands beach this Sunday.
This event has not been granted the relevant permission from Rother District Council or Sussex Police, and will not be supported.
Under current Government guidance in relation to Covid-19, it is against the law for gatherings of more than 30 people to take place in a public outdoor space without the completion of an appropriate risk assessment that has taken into account all risks, including Covid-19 restrictions, in full.
Any event of more than 30 people, without agreement from the police and the local authority, will not be allowed to go ahead.
Rother District Council and Sussex Police will be monitoring arrivals at the beach, and will disperse or turn away any large groups or gatherings.
Anyone who has bought a ticket for an event at Camber should contact the event organiser and ask for a refund.
Following this guidance is crucial in order to do your bit to protect yourself, your family, the NHS and your community.
