Basketball Tournament Returns To Hastings For 7th Year

The World Club Basketball Tournament, which gives players of all abilities the opportunity to compete against other international teams, returns next month.

Founded by CEO Eric Douglin (below) in 2015, the event also aims to raise money for charity, namely Kidney Research UK and Bowel Research UK as a tournament supporter and partner.

The WCBT is hosted by Bexhill Giants Basketball Club and the tournament is open to senior male players from teams across the world, including professional, semi pro or high standard amateurs.

In the past, it has included players who have competed at the highest level around the world, including the NBA, NCAA, Euro League and other professional leagues.

Speaking of the event, Eric Douglin says:

"Witness the world's top basketball clubs compete for glory in this action-packed event. Brace yourself for jaw-dropping dunks, incredible three-pointers, and intense rivalries.

"This tournament promises to deliver non-stop excitement, showcasing the finest basketball talent from around the globe."

This year the WCBT will feature teams from countries including Japan, USA, Lithuania, Poland, Canada & the United Kingdom.

There will also be a free children's coaching clinic, music, competitions, giveaways and entertainment across the weekend.

The WCBT will take place on September 9 and 10 at the Summerfields Leisure Centre in Hastings.

About the founder:

In 2010 Eric Douglin had a kidney transplant, then in 2020, he developed sepsis from undiagnosed diverticulitis, a common bowel disease. A section of his bowel had to be surgically removed, and he was given a colostomy, a surgical opening for the colon and uses a stoma bag.

After his initial operation, Eric found it very difficult to talk about his stoma, even among close family and friends. However, he found solace discussing it with people online and realised his physical recovery and mental health depended on him sharing his experience and challenging social taboos.

Eric blogs regularly for the charity about his bowel and mental health, with a focus on helping people to be comfortable talking about the uncomfortable.

He is viewed among his peers as one of England’s most proactive basketball enthusiasts and has hosted a number of international tournaments in the UK which have included teams and officials from across the globe.
