Beach patrols have been commenced on Shoreham Beach as part of an effort to crack down on littering, dog fouling and a range of anti-social behaviours.
Adur District Council is funding a daily patrol by enforcement officers of a seafront area from the Widewater car park to Shoreham Fort car park as the number of visitors increase over the summer months.
The patrol will also be able to enforce the no barbecue rule and tackle cyclists, those on scooters and horse riders who are not sticking to the rules of the beach. Unlicensed drone usage will also be the subject of the crackdown.
The patrols, which began this week will be allowed to issue on-the-spot Fixed Penalty Notices of up to £80 in some cases.
They will also report back on overflowing bins to the Council’s street cleansing team.
Adur District Council’s Cabinet Member for the Environment and Leisure, Cllr Emma Evans, said:
"We do want to welcome visitors and residents alike to our seafront and of course Shoreham Beach has always been popular.
"But unfortunately a small minority of people behave irresponsibly by littering or lighting up barbecues and spoil it for the rest.
"We don’t want to be too heavy handed and often the patrols will advise visitors, but those who litter or allow their dogs to foul without picking up are on warning — we will not let you spoil our beach without facing the consequences."
The patrols will continue until September 25.
