Bomb disposal team called to two incidents in Brighton

Police and a bomb disposal team were called out to two addresses in Brighton on Monday (May, 11). The force said they were called to two seperate reports involving unexploded bombs yesterday afternoon. Explosive Ordnance Disposal experts first attended the Grand Parade in the early afternoon to deal with what was thought to be an unexploded mortar. The EOD carried out a controlled explosion to destroy the device, and police stood down from the area shortly before 3pm. A second item, police describe as 'a small rusted shell', was reportedly discovered in the garden of a house in Chatham Place at around 3.30pm. Officers said the bomb disposal experts with the EOD carried out an assessment and safely removed the object. Road closures were in place until around 6.30pm. The two incidents are not connected.
