At around 8pm last night (April 4) Police in Brighton cordoned off the Eastbourne Road area in Brighton to allow an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team to assess an unexploded mortar shell.
At 8.19pm, police took to twitter to advise local residents to stay away as a precaution. They added:

The EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) are en route to assess the situation.

The Eastbourne Road area is residential and is located to the north of two of Brighton's major cemeteries.
They followed up the warning just under an hour later with a third tweet:
We are glad to update that the EOD (Explosives Ordnance Disposal) have now removed the suspected unexploded mortar shell from the Eastbourne Road area of Brighton. We thank the public for their patience while road closures were in place. All roads are now reopened. pic.twitter.com/KScSp3sGx5
