Boots Pharmacy To Sell Single Lateral Flow Tests For £5.99

The pharmacy announced it will begin selling single lateral flow tests for £5.99 from Wednesday - ahead of free kits being scrapped on 1 April.

A pack of four tests can be purchased for £17, including delivery.

But from next month, a kit containing five tests will be available in-store for £12.

The news follows Boris Johnson's decision to scrap free testing for most people in England from 1 April under his "living with COVID" plan.

Asif Aziz, director of healthcare services at Boots UK, said:

"We are pleased to be expanding our COVID-19 testing services even further, with affordable lateral flow testing options for those who still want peace of mind from asymptomatic testing after 1 April."

The scrapping of free tests comes as data released by the Office for National Statistics this morning (Feb 23) showed Covid was the third highest cause of death for people in England and Wales in January.

This is a jump from December 2021, when it was in fourth place.

Throughout the month, England recorded 3,797 deaths linked to the virus. This was an increase of 1,113 compared to December 2021.

Sky News reported yesterday (Feb 22) that lateral flow tests were unavailable for home delivery on the government website, ahead of the end of free testing on 1 April.

The UKHSA told Sky News that tests would become available throughout the day, with those hoping to get hold of kits asked to check back every few hours.

At the time of this post (9.25am, Feb 23) lateral flow tests are available for home delivery.

You are able to order one box of tests every 72 hours, which has dropped from once every 24 hours as the government caps availability.
