UPDATE: BREAKING: Body Found Washed Up On Beach In Saltdean

A body has been found washed up on a beach in Saltdean following a search and rescue operation in central Brighton yesterday.

Police have confirmed it was of a 21-year-old man from Brighton.

The circumstances of his death are not believed to be suspicious but police will be carrying out a full investigation into the circumstances of his death.

The coastguard and RNLI were called yesterday (April 13) just before 4pm to reports of a person swept out to sea near Brighton Palace Pier.

Emergency services, including two coastguard helicopters, searched for around six hours yesterday (April 12) and the search resumed this morning at first light.

A Sussex Police sopkesperson said:

"Following an extensive search of the waters around Brighton Pier on Wednesday evening (12 April), we have sadly found the body of a man on the beach at Saltdean.

"He has now been identified as a 21-year-old man from Brighton. His next of kin have been informed.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this tragic incident, but it is not believed to be suspicious.

"We can confirm we are not searching for anyone else in relation to this incident.

"A file will now be prepared for HM Coroner."
