Brighton & Hove: Help For Parents During February Half-Term

Schoolchildren in Brighton & Hove have the opportunity to take part in free activities and enjoy free meals during the school holidays.

Daily sports, games and activities will be offered, following the success of the Winter Holiday Activities and Food programme (HAF) during the Christmas break.

Activities will be held from Monday 14 to Friday 18 February. A free tasty and healthy meal is available at every session.

The provision is for children who are in full-time education and receive benefits-related free school meals.

The programme for the February half-term break is funded by the Household Support Fund and will be slightly different to the regular HAF programme.

The provision will be only for children aged 4 to 12. Priority will be given to those families who need respite or childcare to attend work or important appointments.

Local organisations across the city, including schools, play schemes and community projects will again work with the council to deliver the activities and events.

Sessions on offer at more than 22 locations include arts, crafts, fencing, dodgeball, tri-golf, ultimate frisbee, dancing, yoga, mini-Olympics and a talent show.

Hannah Clare, Chair of Children, Young People & Skills Committee, said:

“Our Winter Holiday Activities and Food programme was a fantastic success during the Christmas break with more than 400 children and young people booking on to fun activities at 25 locations across the city.

“Given the clear demand for this provision, we made the decision to support this additional holiday activities and food programme during February half-term using the council’s Household Support Fund.

“This is awarded by central government to Brighton & Hove Council to provide extra help this winter for households struggling to pay for food, fuel and other essential costs.”
