In their 30th year, local domestic abuse charity RISE are bringing their iconic 8K Run for Women back to the Undercliff Path on Sunday 13 October.
This is the 17th annual event which sees hundreds of women run together and provides an opportunity for the wider Brighton and Hove community to stand together and say NO to domestic abuse and violence and YES to lives lived in freedom from abuse and violence.
This year, 2024 Brighton Half Marathon Official Pacer Emily will be the official race starter and participate in it.
Emily said:
"I was honoured and pleased to be asked to get involved in the RISE 8K Run for Women.
"The work RISE does is so important, walking alongside women who have experienced domestic abuse and violence, creating community to say NO to abuse and violence within our wonderful city and beyond.
"The 8K Run for Women is a shining example of how incredible women are.
"Every year, women who've never run before sign up and train to run, and prove to themselves and everyone around them what they can do.
"For many women it's the furthest they've ever run.
"It's a wonderful way to show solidarity and sisterhood with women who come through abuse. I've never been an official race starter before, and I can't wait to be so on the day!"
Further support for the run has been pledged by the Brighton business community.
Prizes including vouchers towards piercings, pizzas and volleyball sessions, as well as bouquets, and gym passes have so far been donated by Freedom Leisure, Guru Piercing, Yellow Wave, Fatto a Mano, and Ginger Lily Florists.
