Labour’s newly elected councillor for Rottingdean Coastal Ward, Cllr Robert Mcintosh, has announced today that he has been diagnosed with bowel cancer and is currently undergoing treatment.
A statement released this morning said Cllr Macintosh received his diagnosis following a routine screening, during the recent by-election campaign.
It added that he regards himself as "fortunate" in having an early diagnosis and is urging residents to undergo regular screens and tests in order to identify these kinds of diseases while they're still treatable.
The councillor has asked the public to be patient with him while he recovers from surgery due next week.
He says his email will be monitored.
