Brighton Man Charged With Two Burglaries

A Brighton man who carried out two burglaries - one of them while he was using crutches - has been charged.

Police were called to a flat in New Church Road just after 9pm on Tuesday, April 12 while a burglary was in progress.

Officers arrived in time to confront the intruder who smashed through a ground floor window and escaped through neighbouring gardens, leaving a train of blood from an injury to his leg.

Police caught up with him in a garden in Portland Road after a member of the public reported a man with a serious leg injury.

He was arrested on suspicion of burglary, taken to hospital for treatment and released on conditional bail.

Just a week later on April 19, he was spotted on crutches breaking into a property in Egginton Road, before leaving on a bus.

Investigating officers found him and arrested him on suspicion of burglary.

William Djama, 33, of Buckingham Street in Brighton, was charged with two counts of burglary and remanded in custody pending a hearing on May 19.
