Brighton Man Charged With Violent Attempted Robbery

An 18-year-old man has been charged after a violent attempted robbery that left a man with serious injuries.

It happened in the early hours of Wednesday, June 29 in Jubilee Street in town.

Police say two men approached a group of people and threatened them, assaulting two members of the group, one of whom suffered a broken arm and a cut to the leg, believed to be from a weapon.

Police were called after the assailants fled the scene and they found one of the suspects in nearby Pavilion Gardens.

Roman Lee, 18, of Clarence Square in Brighton, was arrested and subsequently charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, actual bodily harm, assault by beating, attempted robbery and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

He was also in breach of an existing Community Protection Notice prohibiting him from entering Pavilion Gardens.

Lee appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, July 12, and was remanded in custody, pending an appearance at a court to be confirmed on August 9.
