Brighton: New Just Eat Job Model 'Not Enough' Says Union

Just Eat is set to bring 300 new jobs to Brighton but trade union representatives say more needs to be done for workers.

It's only the fourth city in the UK to introduce a new worker model offering delivery drivers hourly pay, pension contributions and other benefits, such as holiday and sick pay.

Speaking to The Guardian recently, Alex Marshall, of the Independent Workers Union of Great Britain, said:

"[Just Eat's new model is] a step in the right direction but still not where it should be to offer a sustainable job that people can build a life around”.

The model is already in operation across 150 European cities but Mr Marshall said it would've been good for the food delivery company to speak to workers about what they wanted rather than launch a PR stunt.

Andrew Kenny, Just Eat UK's Managing Director, said:

"We're excited to now be rolling this out to Brighton, creating hundreds of more roles in the coming months. We believe giving couriers access to the benefits and security associated with a model like this is the right thing to do and we're hugely ambitious to grow this further out across the UK."
