Brighton teacher jailed after £50,000 worth of cannabis found displayed in 'sweet shop' style

A 53-year-old teacher has been jailed after almost £50,000 worth of cannabis was discovered at a property in Brighton. Officers say police dog Basil helped them find more than 5kg of cannabis, with a street value of around £45,000, around £15,000 in cash and various drug paraphernalia at his flat in October. The drugs were displayed 'in the style of a sweet shop', stored in glass jars and plastic containers within cupboards and compartments around the property in Ditchling Rise. Labels included 'Blueberry Pie', 'Orange Bud' and 'Gelato 33'. Kim Wijesuriya pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply cannabis, and was sentenced to two years' imprisonment. The drugs and associated paraphernalia were seized and destroyed. Investigating Officer Rose Horan said: "Acting on intelligence, our officers executed a drugs warrant at Wijesuriya’s address and discovered a significant quantity of cannabis which was clearly prepared with the intent of distribution. "This seizure will prevent these drugs from being circulated and causing harm in the community."
