Building fire in Hastings being treated as arson

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service is treating a fire in Hastings on Saturday (April, 25) as deliberate. Firefighters were called to reports of a blaze at a derelict building in Sedlescombe Road North at around 12.20pm. Six fire engines and police attended the scene, where crews used breathing apparatus and hose reel jets to extinguish the fire. Three engines remained at the scene at around 3.30pm. Officials said an investigation is underway to determine the cause, but it is being treated as deliberate. A ESFRS spokesperson said: "Deliberate fires take up a large amount of our firefighters’ time. "Our fire crews could be putting out these avoidable fires when they should be helping someone whose life may be in danger at a house fire or road traffic collision, or carrying out other work to make our communities safer. "Many fires, including refuse fires wheelie bin fires and grass fires are started deliberately. "It’s important to report irresponsible behaviour so that fires can be prevented in your community."
