Building Waste Dumped On Level Crossing 'Could Have Caused Major Accident'

Wealden District Council has shared its reaction to the fly-tipping of a large amount of construction waste, found strewn across a level crossing in Wilmington on Sunday.

The waste made up largely of what appears to be wood and plastic appeared on either side of the rails in Thornwell Road.

Wealden's Street Scene Team is investigating what it has branded as 'one of the most dangerous fly-tips we have encountered'.

In a post on Facebook, a spokesperson said:

"It was a Sunday evening and trains were still running.

"Do you recognise any of the rubbish that was cleared to the side by Network Rail staff to make the crossing safe?

"If it’s your rubbish please be assured that this time we are only interested in the person who dumped it.

"They could so easily have caused a major accident. They need to be stopped."
