Burglary suspects arrested in Saltdean with help of new police recruit

Officers have arrested two men on suspicion of burglary in Saltdean, with the help of a police dog who was only on his third shift. PD Balto, a newly recruited German Shepherd General Purpose Dog, was called to assist with a break-in at Yummies Pizza in Longridge Avenue at around 2am last Thursday morning (April, 9). Police said three men were witnessed running away from the scene. A man was detained after being discovered in bushes, while a second was arrested after two-year-old Balto tracked him to a nearby garage roof. A delivery bag containing a safe was found discarded nearby, and was seized for forensic examination. The two suspects - a 28-year-old man from Hastings and a 21-year-old man from Bexhill - have been released under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting reference number 178 of 09/04.   More Radio is continuously dedicated to providing a quality news service on-air and online, reporting local stories that matter across Sussex.
