Bus Company To Extend £2 Fare Scheme And Continue 'Unlimited Free Travel' Giveaway

Stagecoach has announced that it is extending its offer of a maximum fare of £2 for a single bus journey in England, until end October.

The new £2 single fares launched in January of this year.

And to say thank you for choosing to use the bus, Stagecoach has rewarded some of its £2 fare customers by giving them a year of free unlimited travel on any Stagecoach service.

May’s free annual travel pass winner, Juxhina, a student from Oxford, uses the bus to travel into the city and says winning a year’s free travel will save her money, which helps a lot whilst she studies during the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.

With the offer now being extended until 31 October 2023, the operator has revealed plans to reward more people for choosing to travel by bus.

Customers who buy a £2 single ticket on the Stagecoach Bus App, available on both Apple and Android, can win further free travel passes during the next phase of the offer. One winner will be chosen at random from eligible customers in July, August, September and October*.

Stagecoach says the £2 offer, part of the Government’s Help for Households campaign, has helped bus customers save money but has also boosted local economies and communities. Almost a quarter of Stagecoach £2-bus-fare customers surveyed said that they were making trips they wouldn’t otherwise have made, showing how public transport boosts local economies and supports businesses. A similar proportion of customers reported they had switched some journeys from private vehicles to the bus, taking cars off the road, helping to reduce congestion and improve air quality for everyone.

Ray O’Toole, Executive Chairman for Stagecoach said:

“We are delighted that the £2 fare offer has been extended until the end of October, giving more people the chance to see where the bus can take them.

“With summer now here, there’s never been a better time to try the bus. Around 10 million people in England live within walking distance of one of our bus stops, so we’re hoping that people will take the opportunity to get out of their cars and give the bus a try for the bargain price of just £2 for a single ticket.”

Stagecoach bus tickets can either be bought on the Stagecoach Bus App in advance of travel, or on the bus using contactless payment or cash.

*Terms and Conditions apply, see stagecoachbus.com for details. £2 Bus Fare Cap single tickets must be bought on the Stagecoach Bus App between 1 July and 31 October 2023 using a registered Stagecoach account which is opted in to accept marketing contact by e-mail. Winning entries will be selected randomly by Stagecoach, with one free travel pass awarded in each of July, August, September and October.
