Buxted FC More Than Half-Way To Defibrillator Security Funding

A Sussex grassroots football club where a heart defibrillator was vandalised is more than half-way toward its fund-raising target for protecting its new device.

Bosses at Buxted F.C. also said they want to train members of the public in its correct use.

Police added that they continued to investigate after the life-saving device was destroyed early last Sunday morning, June 13.

The incident occurred only hours after a similar device was widely credited with helping to save the life of Danish footballer Christian Ericksen in his team's match against Finland in Euro2020.

Widespread public revulsion greeted filmed evidence of the device being broken apart by force.

A 17-year-old boy was interviewed and released under conditions.

The club has been given, on long-term loan, a defibrillator from SECAmb, the ambulance service in Sussex, Surrey and Kent.

However, to protect this unit, and any future device, club volunteers are crowdfunding to find a secure way of mounting such a device in future.

Writing on behalf of Buxted FC, Mick Gosden said:

"We have been overwhelmed with generous offers but people still want to help.

"For absolute clarification - we have received an unprecedented amount of offers for donation of an AED - so we have covered this cost.

"The wall box needs to be repaired / replaced so this is a cost that we are looking to get assistance with.

"As a club we would also like to run a series of public training sessions - short 4hr sessions to highlight the importance of these devices and train CPR and the safe use of the AED."
