Officers are investigating a reported assault in Crawley on Sunday.
Police said a man in his 40s suffered a number of serious injuries during the attack.
The victim was reportedly approached by a group of five young adults while walking along Broadway, at around 9.30pm
He was then followed towards the car park in the Boulevard where he was punched and kicked.
According to officers, the victim was taken to hospital for medical treatment.
The suspects were described as black, aged between 17 and 20, wearing dark clothing with hoods up and were all using bicycles.
