Centuries-Old Sheep Fair Returns To Findon

The Findon Sheep Fair returns to Nepcote Green in Findon Village next Saturday (September 10).

The fair, that has been an annual tradition for 200 years, was cancelled in 2020, and in 2021 a special opening ceremony was held, with a closing ceremony a few moments later. Only 50 people attended, instead of the usual 6,000, with just five sheep on the green.

The only other time it has been cancelled in its history was in 2001 due to the foot-and-mouth epidemic.

its roots can be traced back to 1261 when a charter was established, granting permission for a sheep fair to take place on Nepcote Green.

The event has grown over the years and now includes a funfair, sheep competitions and stalls run by local businesses.

This year, there will be the usual sheep judging and the famous Sheep Show with its dancing sheep; a bird of prey display and other attractions, including stalls, food and a licensed bar area. The Harris Brothers traditional fair will also be there.

It's free entry to the fair, with charges for parking.

Tickets to the Friday night barn dance, featuring live music by Shenanigans, are still available. Tickets to the Saturday night party on the green have sold out.

Friday tickets at £7.50 for adults and £5 for children under 18 are available from the Findon Village Store or Michael Jones & Curtis Estate Agents in Findon Valley.
