Community Donates Thousands Following Woodingdean House Fire

Neighbours have rallied around a family in Netherfield Green who returned home to find their house on fire on Thursday afternoon (Jan 5).

The fire, which was believed to be an accident, burned out the whole ground floor and caused significant damage to the remaining parts of the house.

In a statement East Sussex Fire & Rescue said they had been called to the property just after 3pm on Thursday.

They ascertained that the occupants of the house were all safe, however, a number of pets died in the fire, including cats and dogs.

They added that UK Power Networks had been informed and an investigation would be carried out.

In response to the incident, neighbours set up a GoFundMe page to help raise money for Sarah and Simon Leverett and their children.

People also left flowers outside the house in sympathy for the family. A message on the fundraising page reads:

"As a community we can all help together to raise funds for Sarah, Simon and the children to try and get thought this horrendous time.

"After suffering a house fire which destroyed absolutely everything anything you can spare or give will be a huge help to this amazing family.

"As a community Woodingdean can do this together please give anything you can."

So far, just over £4,000 pounds has been raised.
