Community Warm Spaces Open Up In Adur And Worthing

Community warm spaces have opened up across Adur and Worthing - meaning residents will have somewhere to keep warm for free this winter.

Warm spaces offer people who are worried about the rising cost of energy bills not only the chance to keep warm, but also aim to reduce social isolation with group activities or a welcome cup of tea.

Already, several warm spaces have opened their doors to visitors thanks to funding from Adur & Worthing Councils - with more set to open soon.

A handy map of all the warm space venues across Adur and Worthing is now available to view below on The Council website - meaning residents can easily find one close to where they live.

The map will also include the locations of warm spaces in libraries run by West Sussex County Council and those set up without funding from the Councils.

Grants of up to £500 are available to community groups that have a venue suitable for use as a warm space. The money can be used to help offset expenses like energy costs, staff and volunteer costs or the purchase and hire of equipment.

Cllr Carl Walker, the Deputy Leader of Worthing Borough Council, said:

“The warm spaces that have opened up so far are doing a fantastic job of keeping people warm this winter, but because they are run by community groups that also offer activities, they are helping to reduce social isolation too.

"This new map offers people the chance to find a warm space close to home and also make new connections within their community.

"We would welcome anyone who wants to set up a space to contact us and we'll support our community groups to do this.

"A huge thanks to all those who have come forward to help.”
