Coronavirus advice issued to parents after East Sussex students return from Northern Italy

A school in Battle, East Sussex, has issued health advice to parents and carers after students returned from a ski trip in Northern Italy, where authorities are trying to stop coronavirus spreading. Principal Paul Swatton told More Radio a letter was sent out to all parents and carers of children who attend Claverham Community College yesterday (Tuesday, 25) after Public Health England updated their advice online. Mr. Swatton said 41 pupils aged 11-16 and five staff returned from the ski resort in Champoluc last Friday (February, 21). Pupils who are ill or show flu-like symptoms have been advised to self-isolate and call 111. Champoluc is not one of the areas currently in lockdown. The government agency issued the following advice for anyone returning anywhere north of Pisa, Florence and Rimini in Northern Italy: "If you have returned from these areas since 19 February and develop symptoms, however mild, you should stay indoors at home and avoid contact with other people immediately and call NHS 111. "You do not need to follow this advice if you have no symptoms." In a letter, the school said: "The advice which we are acting on is purely a precaution. "The centre of the recent outbreak of coronavirus in Italy is southeast of Milan, a large distance from the destination of the ski trip, Champoluc, which is only about 10 miles from the Swiss border."
