Coronavirus: Brighton v Arsenal match to go ahead at the Amex despite players self-isolating

Brighton and Hove Albion say Saturday's match remains scheduled to go ahead as planned, despite some Arsenal players self isolating. Arsenal’s match at Manchester City, due to take place at the Etihad Stadium tonight (Wednesday, 11), has been postponed after a number of Gunners players self isolated as a precaution against coronavirus. The club said the risk is considered extremely low, with the self-isolation period for those players ending tomorrow. The seagulls said they will continue to follow government and medical advice about Covid-19. Brighton and Hove Albion released a statement regarding the virus yesterday (Tuesday, 10) which included guidance for fans planning to attend Saturday's game. The club said: "We will provide hand sanitisers where possible and antibacterial hand wash in all washrooms in the stadium, subject to the supplies available to us. "Supporters will also be permitted to bring travel-sized hand sanitisers into the stadium (up to 100ml) in a clear plastic container. "Supporters won’t be permitted to congregate in and around the players entrance and route to and from the stadium, in line with the guidance we issued to players not to pose for selfies or sign autographs." Officials also encouraged cashless and contactless payments where possible. Mascots Gully, Sally and Sammy have been stood down until further notice and any direct physical contact is discouraged. Arsenal's players and staff took measures after coming into contact with Olympiakos owner Evangelos Marinakis on February 27 at the Europa League tie between the clubs at the Emirates. Mr Marinakis confirmed yesterday (Tuesday, 10) that he tested positive for the virus. Arsenal said none of their staff or players are showing any symptoms of the virus. They added: “The medical advice we have received puts the risk of them developing Covid-19 at extremely low. “However, we are strictly following the government guidelines which recommend that anyone coming into close contact with someone with the virus should self-isolate at home for 14 days from the last time they had contact. “The players will remain at their homes until the 14-day period expires. Four Arsenal staff — who were sitting close to Mr Marinakis during the match — will also remain at home until the 14 days are complete.” That period concludes tomorrow (Thursday, 12).
