Coronavirus: Eleven Sussex GPs To Receive Vaccine - Plus More Sites

According to Healthwatch Brighton and Hove, eleven Sussex GPs will receive the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine within the next couple of months.

CEO David Liley said the organisation was told by NHS England that eleven primary care sites would receive the vaccine, but details of which GPs were not revealed.

A surgery in Uckfield is the only one that's so far been identified.

It's expected that some of these GPs will receive the vaccine before Christmas.

Along with the roll-out at GP surgeries, hospitals across Sussex will also be given the vaccine.

Mr Liley said:

"The roll-out process is - first of all, the Royal Sussex County Hospital has had the vaccine already and has started to vaccinate people already, which is great news.

"Then, all the other acute hospitals in Sussex will be getting supplies. That would be in Hastings, Eastbourne, Worthing and Chichester.

"At the same time, in parallel, we will be having the GP roll-out - but each of the GP sites has to be inspected to make sure that they're suitable, and that will take more time.

"Otherwise, as I mentioned, there is the first wave of the first eleven.

"Larger testing centres will also be established, we don't know where they're going to be apart from the Brighton Centre."

Patients are urged not to contact their GPs, as this will clog up phone lines.

Those who are eligible will be contacted when the vaccine becomes available.

Healthwatch Brighton and Hove is an organisation that represents the views of the people that use health and social care services in the city.

It is a community interest company (CIC), a non-charitable limited company which exists to benefit a community or with a view to pursuing a social purpose, rather than to make a profit for shareholders.

Though commissioned and funded by Brighton and Hove City Council, it is independent of both the council and the NHS.
