Officers will still respond to calls about such situations. Blood donation A plea for blood donations continue after a fall in numbers. New strict hygiene measures are in place, and all possible donors are checked for risk before entering donation points. Car Parks The latest car parks to shut are at Arlington and Ardingly reservoirs. South East Water said the public toilets are also closed. Refuse workers Councils in East Sussex are telling union leaders they're doing their best to protect refuse workers from coronavirus. It's in response to the GMB Union asking local authorities what was being done to minimise the risk inside bin lorries, or when collecting waste. Parking Parking charges have been suspended for health and care workers in East and West Sussex. It applies to all council-operated car parks. Motorists will need to leave a copy of their work credentials on display, with sensitive information removed. Coming together A number of charities and community hubs have formed to help people who are suffering as a result of the coronavirus outbreak. Brighton & Hove Food partnership have raised more than half of their £30,000 target to help find new distribution methods for things like food banks. They plan to help people in poverty who can not leave their home or are in isolation, and families eligible to free school meals. Brighton & Hove City Council have pointed people toward a local loneliness charity, 'Together Co'. A community hub has been formed in Hastings, so vulnerable residents can access a helpline if they have no friends or family nearby to help them. The Sussex Crisis Fund has been set up to fund a range of charities and community groups who are helping those in need during the coronavirus crisis. University of Sussex staff A petition launched yesterday (Thursday, 26) morning has already gained nearly 5,000 signatures. It claims to be fighting against a decision that temporary and casual staff at the University of Sussex will have their contracts terminated immediately, due to Covid-19 However, the institution rejects those claims and said that they will honour all fixed term contracts until their end, where they plan to review all roles to establish whether they are critical for business. A spokesperson also said that the university is financially sound at the moment but they are trying to put measures in place for long-term sustainability.
