Here's all you need to know about what's going on in Sussex as the UK reaches the end of it's second week under 'lockdown'. — Will Flockton (@wflockton) April 2, 2020 Brighton and Hove Albion bosses take pay cut Boss Graham Potter, Chief Executive Paul Barber, and Technical Director Dan Ashworth, have volunteered a 'significant' pay cut for the next three months, to take financial pressure off of the Premiere League club. They said it means that non-playing staff will not be furloughed for the foreseeable future.Council tax reduction (Brighton and Hove)
Brighton and Hove City Council have made more information available for council tax reductions in the area.
Every working age household who receives a Council Tax Reduction in 2020/21 will receive an additional reduction to their council tax bill.
This means they will either have nothing to pay, or their bill reduced by a further £150.
Visiting cemeteries
Brighton and Hove City Council asked people to only go to the city cemeteries to attend a funeral or visit a grave.
They said since the government restrictions on movement were introduced, they've seen a rise in the number of people using the cemetery grounds for outings, exercise and dog walking.
Council staff asked people to use other areas for these activities.
Craven Vale care home
In response to concerns raised by staff at Craven Vale care home in Brighton, where there is one confirmed case of Covid-19, Councillor Clare Moonan, Chair of the Health and Wellbeing Board released a statement.In it, she thanked staff and said she understood their concerns.
She added: “Staff at Craven Vale have access to all necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) according to NHS guidance. "We are working through the Sussex Resilience Forum and NHS to source ongoing supplies. "If anyone has concerns, they should approach their manager as soon as possible."Moonan said social distancing measures were implemented at all care homes and no issues were raised by the managers of the care home.
Moonan also said:
"We have no information at present about a second or third case of Covid-19 at Craven Vale. "There is only one confirmed case we are aware of and that person is being isolated within the centre. "It’s quite possible there may be other clients who may have some symptoms but nothing is confirmed at present."She said she is meeting with staff at the home and calling on the government to increase testing and levels of PPE for care home staff.
British Airways staffA union said that more than 30,000 British Airways staff are likely to be suspended after the airline grounded all of their Gatwick flights last week.
It's understood that there will be no redundancies during this time, and the scheme to furlough staff will run until May 31.
Work on farmsBrighton-based charity Concordia said that due to the coronavirus pandemic, UK farms have a shortage of seasonal labour to help pick and pack fruit and vegetables.
They called for workers to apply for paid positions on local farms across the UK.
