Counciller Nancy Platts is calling on central government for the ability to implement a 'local lockdown', after people flocked to Brighton and Hove's beaches over the warm weekend.

She said some people appear to be 'overdoing it alcohol wise', and the authority is trying to ensure that seafront bars are not breaking restrictions. However, it's thought that the people drinking heavily may be bringing their own alcohol to the beach.

The City Council's leader also said she's upset to hear that people who live in the city feel they cannot go to their local park or seafront because they feel unsafe.

East Sussex reopening

European funds totalling £753,735 has been allocated to East Sussex and Brighton's efforts to make streets safer for shoppers.

The money, from the European Regional Development Fund, is in preparation for June the 15th, the date suggested for non-essential shops to re-open.

Councils in Sussex said it's intended for measures such as street-markings and temporary barriers.

Buses

From today (Monday, 1), there will be more buses in operation across part of Sussex.

Brighton & Hove Buses said 80% of standard services will be running to support people who need to return to work.

The company still ask that people only use their services if it is absolutely essential.

If you need to make a journey with us please note our service levels have increased, from today, to around 80% of our standard services as part of our continued effort to support social distancing.

PPE

Health and care services for coronavirus patients remain at risk in Brighton and Hove because of difficulties in obtaining personal protective equipment (PPE).

The City Council said more than £600,000 is being spent to provide the gear monthly.

Officials claim getting new supplies is still uncertain due to problems with a government system, but so far they have still managed to source items from elsewhere.
