Seaford beach cleans cancelled Seaford's Surfers Against Sewage group cancelled next month's beach cleans (scheduled for April, 5) because of the current virus outbreak. Claire Sumners said the decision was made as their Plastic Free Seaford campaign steadily attracts around 50 attendees. The group said: "As the UK gets to grip with this infection, we all have a responsibility to protect those most vulnerable and to help the workload of our precious NHS." All of their events, normally held on the first Sunday of the month, have been cancelled until further notice. The Hastings half marathon cancelled The Hastings Lions Club said they take the safety and health of all their entrants, helpers, spectators and suppliers very seriously. The organisers said: "We have no alternative but to cancel this year's Event, and make priority for the Health of our Nation the number one consideration. "We would still encourage runners to keep healthy, and those who are raising money for needy causes and charities, to still try to run a 'Virtual' distance at some time to obtain your precious sponsorship for those in need. "It is further unfortunate that we will not obviously be able to donate to local needy causes, nearly £70,000 that was spent in the community last year to help those most needy." The event was scheduled for March 29, all entrants are offered free entry to next year's event on March 21, 2020. Brighton and Hove Pride 2020 still on the cards Our local democracy reporter said organisers of Brighton Pride will not make a decision on whether to cancel or postpone the event yet, with a cut-off date as late as July. Preparations continue for the event to be held August 1-2, which brings £20 million to the economy. The organisers are monitoring the situation week by week. Sussex Cricket's players return from abroad Players and staff currently in Cape Town for Sussex Cricket’s men’s pre-season tour will return to the UK on the next available flight. None of the touring party are displaying symptoms associated with the virus. Performance director, Keith Greenfield said: "We have been monitoring the fast-moving situation regarding Coronavirus prior to and during the tour and, with travel restrictions increasing, we’ve made the decision to return to the UK at the earliest opportunity. "This is obviously disappointing, but – as ever - the wellbeing of our players and staff is our number one priority.” More Radio is continuously dedicated to providing a quality news service on-air and online, reporting local stories that matter across Sussex.
