Coronavirus: The latest developments in Sussex (Monday, April 6)

Here’s all you need to know about what’s been going on in Sussex over the weekend under ‘lockdown’. As of Monday (April, 6) at 7am the following figures are the known number of Covid-19 cases in each district: Brighton and Hove: 84 East Sussex: 155 West Sussex: 220 Virtual Council meetings A law came into force over the weekend, allowing Councils across Sussex to make decisions using virtual, or remote, meetings. The temporary change was tested out by Brighton and Hove City Council last week, where they agreed their emergency funding of more than £100 million. The Local Democracy Reporter said webcasting is likely to be used to allow the public to hear and see what is happening. Field hospitals Despite rumours that a possible field hospitals were being scoped out at The Brighton Centre and Gatwick airport last week, Brighton and Hove City Council said "no decision has been made on any potential sites in Sussex." However, NHS England and military planners will continue to review their best options to meet expected demand over the coming weeks. Childcare for key workers during Easter Last Friday (April, 3) was, what would normally be, the last day of school term. Brighton and Hove City Council said that children of key workers will continue to be offered childcare during the East break (April 7 to April 17). Eligible families who need help can contact the Family Information Service. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Brighton and Hove City Council are trying to ensure that all staff who require PPE will have access to supplies as soon as possible. The City Council said a new national scheme by private sector company Clipper will be distributing national PPE stock to Care Quality Commission (CQC) registered care providers; places like residential care homes. They've been told that deliveries will begin from tomorrow (April, 7), and care providers have been asked to register via email. Council staff have also been redeployed to buy and distribute PPE from other sources.They're still asking for donations of masks, gloves, goggles and aprons. BTN BikeShare The bike share scheme is available for free to NHS staff working in Brighton & Hove during the coronavirus pandemic. The City Council said: "Annual memberships, which include 30 minutes of free travel and no unlock fees, are also being offered to care contractor staff working for Brighton & Hove City Council.  "These key workers offer support and care to some of the vulnerable people living in the city. "Eligible NHS workers should contact their site travel coordinator for information on how to take up this offer.  "Care contractor staff working for Brighton & Hove City Council should contact their company travel coordinator." Rough sleepers On Friday (April, 3), 51 more rooms with en suites were secured at a second hotel in the Brighton and Hove area, on top of the spaces already at the YHA. Brighton and Hove City Council said anyone with symptoms will be given the appropriate provisions to self isolate. St Mungo's outreach service are also making sure people have things like TVs, kindles and games consoles to keep busy - which they are collecting donations of.
