Here’s all the coronavirus related news that’s gone on in Sussex over the last 24 hours As of Thursday (April, 23) at 6am, the following figures are the known number of Covid-19 cases in each district: Brighton and Hove: 322 East Sussex: 471 West Sussex: 910 Total: 1,703 West Sussex County Council West Sussex County Council estimated the extra costs of the coronavirus impact in the district are about £85m until June. The council are still trying to save £45m over the next four years. Fire Brigades' Union The Fire Brigades' Union said the coronavirus lockdown is not the time for East Sussex's Fire Authority to start consulting the public over major changes to how firefighters operate, including possible redundancies. Hastings Borough Council redeploy staff Local authority work in Hastings are redeploying staff to help cope with the coronavirus lockdown. Parking wardens are among staff who are switching roles to support key workers. Instead of their usual job, they're finding free parking spaces for people needed to drive. PPE at Eastbourne DGH East Sussex MPs argued over the supply of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) available during the coronavirus crisis. Lewes' Conservative MP, Maria Caulfield, tweeted from the hospital she is working as a nurse at saying stocks of protective gear were 'plentiful'. Yet, Eastbourne Borough Council's Liberal Democrat leader, David Tutt, said stocks were 'dangerously low'. The NHS trust running Eastbourne DGH said 'just-in-time' deliveries were giving a good supply. Watch your children online The South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU), who tackle child abuse and exploitation, warned parents that there could be a rise in coercion as internet use increases under lockdown. Officers said parents should check who their children are talking to. Hove shopping scam The public is warned to stay vigilant after a scammer tried to take advantage of a woman in her eighties. A fraudster repeatedly called the woman, offering to pick up her groceries, as well as requesting to collect her bank cards in order to get her pension. Police warn people to verify people are who they say they are, and from the organisation they claim to be representing.
