As of Tuesday (June, 2) at 6am, the following figures are the known number of Covid-19 cases in each district:
Brighton and Hove: 441
East Sussex: 717
West Sussex: 1,329
Total: 2,487

Small businesses impacted by COVID-19 who have fewer than 50 employees, and who have not received a government grant, may be eligible for one-off cash support from a new discretionary fund.
Adur & Worthing Councils has been provided an additional £1.5 million from the government to distribute to local firms to help the area bounce back from the pandemic.
Grants will primarily be one-off sums of either £10,000, £5,000 or £2,500 which do not have to be paid back.

Cycle paths
The Government has announced initial funding of up to £784,000 for emergency, safe space cycling and walking measures in West Sussex – in response to the pandemic.
Schemes will largely be temporary, such as pop-up cycle lanes and some road closures, but may evolve into permanent changes.
Roger Elkins, Cabinet Member for Highways and Infrastructure, said:
“This initial funding is welcome news and will boost provision for safe space cycling and walking in the county.
“We hope to make further announcements on funding for both walking and cycling provision in the county once we have details of second tranche funding.”
News of extra funding levels has been eagerly awaited since May 9, when the Transport Secretary announced a £250million boost nationally for cyclists and pedestrians.
Roger added:
“Since May 9, our officers have been working hard, liaising with our district and borough council partners to draw up a list of priority schemes and we have commissioned consultants to start to develop these into workable designs that can be implemented.
“Many of these potential schemes have been drawn from Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans that have been developed across the county.”
Brighton Pride goes online for 2020
Brighton Kemptown’s MP tweeted his support for Brighton Pride but the event will go online this year, as a result of coronavirus.

West Sussex Fire Officer has praised its volunteers
The Chief Fire Officer paid tribute to how staff across the service have been pulling together during the Covid-19 pandemic. Over recent weeks West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service has:
- Helped distribute more than 700,000 items of PPE
- Visited more than 700 vulnerable people or those on the National Shielding Register since May 23
- Carried out 177 urgent welfare checks
- Carried out 151 Safe & Well Visits
- Carried out 61 urgent deliveries of medical supplies to vulnerable residents
Chief Fire Officer Sabrina Cohen-Hatton said:
“These have been extremely challenging times for us all, but like so many other organisations in the community, we have all pulled together to support those who need our help the most.
“That is what being part of a community is all about – stepping in to help when the going gets tough, and I have been blown away by the offers of support from across all areas of the service – from people keen to roll their sleeves up and get stuck in to ensure that no-one is left to fend for themselves.”
