The latest developments in response to the coronavirus outbreak in Sussex over the last 24 hours. As of Wednesday (April, 1) at 7am the following figures are the known number of Covid-19 cases in each district: Brighton and Hove: 44 East Sussex: 73 West Sussex: 146 Lockdown enforcement Brighton and Hove City council held a virtual meeting yesterday (Tuesday, 31) to decide how to enforce the current coronavirus regulations and social-distancing measures.
The members present were Cllr Nancy Platts (Labour), Cllr David Gibson (Green) and Cllr Joe Miller (Conservative).
Councillors agreed that the following officers can be designated for the purpose of enforcing the new coronavirus regulations 2020:
Regulatory services managers Environmental Health Officers Senior Licensing Officer Technical Officers in Environmental Health and Licensing Team Trading Standards officers Fair Trading Officers Highways Enforcement Officers Field Officers Seafront Team Brighton and Hove staff can also take action against party houes and pub lock-ins.Free school meals
Brighton and Hove City Council said they have written to schools to let them know they can now order vouchers worth £15 per pupil per week from Edenred, the company running the scheme for the government.
Schools then pass the vouchers on to eligible parents, who can redeem them in a number of supermarket chains.
Complaint temporarily stops free meals for NHS staff East Worthing and Shoreham MP Tim Loughton was working with a team of volunteers to provide freshly cooked meals for NHS staff coming off shift at Worthing Hospital. He said someone took issue with them handing out meals because they are not a registered food business. Worthing Borough Council have let them continue, for now.Homelessness
Brighton and Hove City Council said they have secured a YHA property in the Old Steine which will provide 51 units of accommodation, specifically for anyone who has been rough sleeping with Covid-19 symptoms.They're negotiating on a number of other properties with an aim to secure an additional 219 units.
Meanwhile, the leader of Arun District Council, Dr James Walsh, said every person who sleeps rough on the streets of Bognor Regis and Littlehampton is offered a roof over their heads during the Covid-19 crisis. Warning Sussex's Police and Crime Commissioner, Katy Bourne, warned that assaults on emergency service workers will not be tolerated. It's after three officers were spat at by a man who said he had the virus on Saturday. He has since been jailed for 12 weeks.
