Coronavirus: The latest developments in Sussex (Wednesday, 18)

All the latest news on cancelled or postponed events in Sussex as the county battles the coronavirus outbreak. Schools Uckfield College is partially closed today, due to staff shortages, caused through coronavirus self-isolation. Students in Years 7 and 8 are being told to stay home, but those in Years 9, 10, 11 and Sixth Form, should go in as normal. Kings School in Hove is closed to all Years 8 and 9 students for two weeks, due to staff shortages. Years 7, 10 and 11 students should go to school as normal. Hailsham Community College is closed due to Year 7,8 and 9 only due to staffing levels. Students should check Firefly for work. Decision to be made daily, keep an eye on school website and Edulink for updates. Peacehaven Community School  is closed to Year 10 until Friday (20 March). Work will be set for students by ShowmyHomework. St Leaonards Academy is close to Year 8 & 9 students only Theatres Eastbourne Theatres has cancelled all shows up to Sunday 19 April. Anyone with tickets booked for that period s being asked not to contact the Box Office, as they will be in touch with you. Chichester Festival Theatre is postponing the opening of productions of Festival 2020 because of the Covid-19 outbreak. All other events during this period are also cancelled with the theatre building and cafe now closed to the public. Sport Fontwell Racecourse has confirmed their next event will be behind closed doors, following the British Hoseracing Authority decision owing to coronavirus. Only essential staff will be on hand at the Spring Afternoon Racing later this month, with no racehorse owners allowed in, or spectators. Eastbourne Eagles won't race until 15 April at the earliest. British Speedway has suspended the new season with immediate effect. Councils West Sussex County Council have closed their 36 libraries - all books on loan will be automatically renewed with no fines issued. West Sussex County Council has cancelled all County Hall meetings until the end of April. All meetings due to be held at the Chichester HQ – along with all county local committee meetings in other areas – will not go ahead. On top of that, all site visits due to be carried out by members of the planning committee have also been called off. Arun District Council has already suspended all meetings. Adur and Worthing Councils have cancelled all meetings for the week and will review the situation next week. A spokesman for Chichester District Council said its meetings were being assessed on a case-by-case basis, while both Horsham District Council and Mid Sussex District Council are discussing options. Closures Concorde 2, Brighton Rope Tackle Arts Centre, Shoreham The Capitol, Horsham Boulder, Brighton Paid entry English Heritage sites, including Battle Abbey. All free-to-enter sites will remain open. Other Chestnut Tree House and St Barnabas House hospices are introducing a new service to help stop families in Sussex from feeling isolated during the pandemic. 'Helping Hands' will provide shopping, prescription collection and pharmacy delivery.
