Coronavirus: The latest developments in Sussex (Wednesday, April 8)

Here’s all the coronavirus related news you need to know across Sussex over the last 24 hours. As of Wednesday (April, 8) at 7am the following figures are the known number of Covid-19 cases in each district: Brighton and Hove: 86 East Sussex: 181 West Sussex: 266 Total for Sussex: 533 Woman accused of coughing at police Yesterday (April, 7), a woman accused of coughing at police, while claiming to be infected with coronavirus, appeared in court. It's after officers were called to a report of a fight in Nightingale Close, just after 8pm on Sunday (April, 5). Read more here. Adur and Worthing markets There will be no more markets anywhere in Worthing Borough and Adur District, until at least the end of May. The authorities said the cancellation came about after government instructions. Some financial measures to compensate traders are already in place. The Martlets urgent appeal A hospice in Brighton and Hove that looks after terminally ill people is urgently appealing for personal protective equipment. The Martlets are looking for donations of a number of things, including masks, gloves, gowns, and thermometers. Buses Bus companies across Sussex are stepping up measures to protect their staff and passengers, after receiving a share of £167m government funding. Brighton & Hove Buses said they're urging for customers to pay contactless or in exact change, which can be put into a plastic bag provided. Nationally, the funds are to help services continue to run while ensuring no bus is filled to more than 50%. Council properties Cleaning is being stepped up of communal areas in council properties in Brighton and Hove to protect tenants from the spread of Covid-19. There's a particular focus on "touch points" such as lift buttons, handrails and door handles. Free-wheeling 'Feastival' The three-day outdoor food and drink festival in Worthing has been postponed due to the coronavirus. Organisers said the event, originally set for early May, will begin in Steyne Gardens on July 31. Fuel vouchers A council-backed energy supplier throughout Sussex is continuing to offer free fuel vouchers for people on limited incomes during the lockdown. 'Your Energy Sussex' said there's no need to be their customer to help, applicants should just contact Citizens Advice.
