Could you help councillors in Adur and Worthing maintain standards of conduct, to meet the expectations of the public and the law?

That's a question officials for the two authorities have been asking, as they seek independent persons to support upholding standards of behaviour for council members.

The councils announced that Adur District Council and Worthing Borough Council want to find two members of the public, to provide impartial advice on matters of conduct, ethics and standards in public life.

The successful applicants' views will also be taken into account by authorities when considering allegations that the Members' Code of Conduct has been breached.

Applicants, who will serve a four year term from December, will need to live or work in the Adur and Worthing area.

Council officials hoped the people they find will be "tactful, diplomatic, impartial and apolitical", and respect confidentiality while understanding the importance of holding a public office position.

Those holding the voluntary position will receive a £100 payment for attendance at each committee meeting, in addition to reasonably incurred expenses.

Full training and support will be provided.

To apply or to ask further questions about the role contact susan.sale@adur-worthing.gov.uk.

Applications close by midday on November 20.
