Council Chairman sends message following the death of Queen Elizabeth II

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II reigned for 70 years until her passing on Thursday (September 8)

The Chairman of Wealden District Council Ron Reed has given his message and some details of upcoming events.

Councillor Reed said: 

"It is with great sadness that we have learned of the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.

"The Councillors and Officers of Wealden District Council are deeply saddened and our thoughts are with the Royal Family at this time."

The statement also came with further details for the public regarding laying flowers and condolences.

Members of the public can lay flowers at dedicated locations around the district.

In Halisham this is at the War Memorial on Halisham High Street.

For further details of where to lay flowers in towns and parishes information is available by contacting the relevant town or parish council.

A book of condolence has also been set up in the reception area of the Wealden District Council offices in Vicarage Lane, Halisham.

This will be open and available for people to write messages of condolence from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday.

The proclamation of the new sovereign King Charles III was held in Wealden on Sunday September 11.
